EXPANSIVE DANCE ON DISGUISED MUSIC
A solo performance by Mat Voorter on John Cage's “Sonatas and Interludes for Prepared Piano” played live by Daan Vandewalle. A prepared piano is a piano altered by all types of objects placed between its strings. Simple materials like screws, rubber pieces or an eraser take the instrument into acoustic territory as “unheard of” as strangely familiar. Applying this idea to the body, Thomas Hauert and his partners have created a performance which deviates from any theatrical narrative and so allows imagination to unfold. Wrapped in a shell of balloons, blankets and broomsticks, dancer Mat Voorter metamorphoses himself, putting his body to the test. He departs on an encounter with friendly monsters floating in a realm of notes... Nothing is normal in this performance, or rather, everything is extraordinary.
